The memory card slot is a small slit in the side or front of some palmtop computers which accommodates a memory card. This is a small card, shaped like a credit card, which has a number of metal contacts along one edge. They contain a small ~ROM~ chip which stores information and instructions for specific programs. Some cards add the ability to write data, similar to |RAM|.
Memory cards are typically used for word processing or personal address/phone directories. Though not common, some palmtops have tiny |hard drives| to store data. As technology improves, drives will become standard equipment.
